What IS the Point of Life?
I've Found the Answer...
I have a funny story to share with you. While I was living in Pittsburgh, my mom came to visit
for the weekend. She’s from Massachusetts so she was staying at my apartment for a few days. At some
point during the weekend she looked at me and said, “Lindsey, I think something is wrong with your
water.” And I said, “What do you mean?” She said, “Well it gets cold really fast.” I said, “Oh don’t
worry about that. It’s been happening ever since I moved in. I think the problem is I have a really small
water tank, so I run out of hot water really fast. But don’t worry I’ve come up with some solutions to
get around this.” So what I would do is if I wanted to take a really hot shower, I would go to my gym
and use their hot water. But, if I wanted to use my tub I got really creative. Here’s what I would do. I
would fill up all the pots and pans in my apartment with water. I would put them on my stove until
they were boiling and then I would pour them in my tub. And if I wanted extra hot water I would fill
up my coffee pot and Keurig and add those as well. I thought I was so smart!
I looked at my mom and said, “Aren’t you so proud of me?”
And she said, “Lindsey, I don’t think it’s supposed to be that hard. Maybe you should talk to
your landlord.” So I texted my landlord and a few days later I got a response.
She said, “Lindsey, we are so sorry, we don’t know what happened. Your water tank was set to
low. But don’t worry, we turned it up to high for you.” So from that day on I had scalding hot water!
To the point where I would be doing dishes and it would burn my hands and there was steam coming
out. But I was so thankful.
I tell you this story because I think that is how a lot of us are living in our relationship with
God. The water heater of our heart is set to low. And we are coming up with all these creative solutions
to try and fill it. So my hope and prayer for this book is that we would turn up the water heater of our
heart. That we would go from low to high. And we would receive more of God’s mercy and grace in
our life
