Decaffeinato

Okay so here’s the thing, I don’t do caffeine. When I am in the states I usually drink decaf coffee. My Dad and I have this ongoing battle in the kitchen when I am home. I put sticky notes on the coffee pot to designate my decaf and his regular coffee. There have been a few mixups and a few groans when he reads my notes after pouring his cup. But I must say I am pretty clever with the notes - “Caffeinated liquid IV this way. Follow arrows.” Or “D for Decaf not Dad”

Coming to Italy I knew how much coffee was apart of the culture. I laughed with my mom as we read my staff orientation schedule which read, “coffee break” every morning. “Do you think they will have decaf while I’m there?”

Now, most people hear decaf and say, “What’s the point?” Or “Weak.” I have heard them all. But I would like argue that I actually like coffee more than caffeine drinkers. Because I am drinking it just for the taste and not the caffeine. I am the true coffee snob.

So my first coffee break I ordered a gin seng, a drink make from a root, trying to find something that wasn’t coffee. Because Lindsey on coffee… well let’s just say there are a lot of words and it’s a great day with a huge crash at the end!

So sipped my gin seng and enjoyed every minute. At the end of the day I Googled to see if gin seng has caffeine and realized why I had such a great day! Same amount as coffee… Between the coffee and seeing all the sights in Rome I was buzzing on life! Wahoo!

But today at the coffee shop I made a new discovery, it’s called Decaffeinato! Decaf coffee!! And it’s served in most coffee shops. I may get some weird looks while ordering but that’s okay. I’ve also decided that I’m going to be training myself for more caffeine. When in Rome I might need to try an espresso! Get ready for lots of words that day!
