So we are in Jaigaon right now and I’ve honestly never seen so much beauty all at once before in my entire life. Jaigaon is at the foothills of the Himalayas and we were driving through the mountains to get to our host location on the other side. The roads twisted and turned around the mountain and I tried so hard to take it all in with my camera. The pictures are honestly beautiful but they don’t even do it justice for everything we were seeing. The sun was also setting, coming down as we were going up and there was one point we were directly level with it.
We have been staying at the school this week and we arrived at night. But we woke up the next morning and realized where we were. Jaigaon is in the valley area with mountains around on every side and closing us in. It’s almost too much to take in all at once. We went to the Pastor’s home in the morning and he told us more of the history of this area. We learned that the city of Jaigaon is actually in between two national boundary lines of India and Bhutan. So it’s a paradox of a place that’s not really in either country, but is a mix of all the cultures and the countries that it borders. Is the most diversity I have seen so far in India, as some people are Nepalese and from Bhutan and have more Asian features in a mix with the Indian culture. And they actually call the place “no man’s land.” But I would disagree, this is not no man’s land, this is God’s land.
On our first full day here we went for a run and we were told to go to the river located five minutes away from the school. We started running down this hill that led directly to the river. It was 6:30pm and sunset and I almost started crying at the scene of a pink and orange sky with the sun behind the mountains in the clouds touching the tops of the mountains. It looked like we were running straight into heaven. It’s exciting that we have been able to do ministry in this area. In a place that is so beautiful that you are in awe.
