Sunday Funday

Sunday morning we got up and went to church. It has been one of the fun conversations of the week to hear about how Natalie and Rachel have chosen a church. Since that’s something I never had to do. After fellows I kept going to the church and never had to experience choosing one. So I enjoyed talking about what they are looking for, from the sermon to the community or communion.

I also really liked the church and it was a church plant with lots of young adults. Which is one of the main reasons Rachel chose it. They are also right in downtown and do a lot of mission work.

After the service we went and walked downtown. And it was such a change from Saturday at 65 and sunny! We were soaking it up. And went into a few shops and a coffee shop. Rachel introduced me to my new favorite, a tumeric latte.

Then we met up with Sam and Natalie at the pancake house. Their tradition on Sundays. We told them about our adventures. At one point Sam asked if we would want to go cut down a Christmas tree later. I pictured a Christmas tree farm. But after we said yes he told us he had gotten a permit for $5 and we could just go into the woods and cut one down.

We headed home to change and they went to pick up a saw from Ace hardware before leaving. The drive up the mountain was fun to joke around and tell stories with friends. It was also getting close to sunset and so beautiful. We made a few stops trying to find the right place. But once you stopped you realized the trees weren’t really that good or they were a lot taller than they looked from the car. So we decided to copy other people and parked where we saw another couple. They were just packing up and told us there were a lot of great ones and they had trouble choosing. So we went in hopeful. But again it was so hard. It was also hilarious because it was a tree for Rachel and Natalie’s apartment and they couldn’t agree on one. One would find one and the other would point in the opposite direction and say they found another one. So we climbed up and down the mountain searching.

The funniest thing was watching two guys who were very “west coast” (one with a mustache car heart jacket the other with long hair and a flannel) and they walked in, looked at one, cut it down, threw it on their shoulder and walked out. Not to mention that it was a perfect blue spruce.

A little while later we found a good one, named him Stewart and cut him down. Well Sam cut it down. We cheered on. And took it home. We did have an Elf moment where it was too big for the ceiling so we had to take a little off. But after decorating Stewart looked adorable!

Then we went out to dinner at the best Thai restaurant in Bend! The Lotus Flower! And I still can’t stop talking about how amazing that curry was! Mind blowing!!
