I’m really thankful for two good friends to visit. It’s sweet to be with people who know you well and my favorite parts of the days are the conversations we have. Natalie and Rach are two of the most adventurous people I know. They decided to move to Oregon, just because they could. Their jobs were flexible and they decided to live in a beautiful place.
Natalie and I were roommates my Junior year of college. We laughed as we looked back on the year because we were originally paired up by another friend thinking we would only have one semester together and then both of us would be studying abroad. But as it turned out both of us decided not to go abroad and we lived together for the full year. Both of us agreed that we weren’t ready to travel, and that year ended up being a blessing in other ways. The thing I love about Natalie is the conversations we have. I remember times in our dorm we would talk about beauty, friendships, and God. And with Natalie, she is so thoughtful that it’s always a rich conversation. And we fell right back into that as we sat on the couch and in the kitchen while she made bread. We talked about beauty again. It came up as we were talking about skin care, makeup and Botox. And our biggest question was - Where is the line between taking care of your body and trying to alter or change God’s design? We still don’t have the official answer.
We spent the afternoon on a hike on the Deschutes River. It was magical and I couldn’t stop taking pictures. When my mom asked how it was going I just overloaded her with all the photos.
Then we went out to dinner with Rachel! It was pretty cool to drive through the downtown and see more of the little shops and restaurants. One of my favorite things about Rachel is how much she loves adventures! We were at dinner and she was telling us the story of how she tried to climb all of the President Mountains in one day. That’s nearly 23 miles long with 9,00 feet of elevation. They had made it through four of the largest ones before needing to head back and ended up hitch hiking back to their car. I just love how excited she is about life and always wants to live it to the full. I met Rachel through Natalie, my junior year of college. It was always a joy to come back to the room and find Rach taking a nap on our couch. She also introduced me to Korean dramas that year and the Outing Club at school. Rachel did so many cool things in college and I was always excited when we would come back from a break and she would share stories about the back packing trip she went on, or the van trip with 10 people through the mountains, or the mission trips around the country.
Rachel was laying out the plans for our week together and asked me if there was anything I wanted to do or see. I told her I was up for whatever she had planned and I trusted we would do and see some pretty cool things!
These are my friends! I love them and I’m thankful to be with them in a beautiful place.
