Dear Family and Friends,
Where in the world are you?
It’s such a fun question to answer these days! I’m in Staunton, Virginia!
Let me tell you the story of how I got here. A few months ago I reached out to my friend to give him a life update that I was returning to the states. He shared that he and his wife were on their way to Virginia for him to Pastor a church plant. He asked if I wanted to come join and be a member.
Well... I had no other potentials for job or location so I figured I would check it out. I came down to Virginia for a weekend to visit and see if I liked it. I was calling it my “go or no go weekend.” If I didn’t like it I would kick my butt in gear to start looking for other options.
After two days of dinners with families, a visit to the local Crossfit, Bread Day and the Church Town Hall Meeting I was in. “It feels like the Salzburg of America!” I’m petitioning that Staunton is a taste of Austria with its small mountain town and local music scene. And I can say that! I called my family and told them I was moving.
The church was kicking off their “Huddle season” from October - May as they launched into a new season to be rooted in their vision and I could see God’s timing for my own life.
The next question is - What will you do? Or my favorite, How will you fill your days?
It is a little unique. Not many people choose a place for the church.
To answer, I spent my first day introducing myself to every shop owner in town with, “Hi my name is Lindsey, are you hiring?” Some strange looks and some potential opportunities. I’m also looking at some virtual jobs so… if you hear of anything let me know! 😉. But I’m trusting that God will provide as I keep moving my feet forward. He has been so faithful every step of the way.
I needed a car - He provided one. I needed a job at home - He gave me a babysitting job for September. I needed a community - He took me to Virginia. I needed a place to live - He gave me a fully furnished room in a home with a couple from the church. He has taught me so much about what it looks like to trust Him for daily bread.
And after one week I am excited about this church and these people. Over the next several months we are walking through each part of the mission and how to live that out. “A community Captivated and Compelled by the Beauty, Truth, and Goodness of Jesus Christ.” Count me in!
My hope is to continue sharing along the way. What is it like to be part of a church plant? The adventure continues, from Roma to Salzburg, no Staunton. Staunzburg?
I will also continue sharing stories from this past year and I’ll be working on some discipleship resources that have been on my heart. So be sure to be on the lookout for those!
Thank you all for your continued love, support and prayers. And I would love to have you come visit!
Here’s a poem to summarize the start to a new adventure:
A poem a day
Is what I will say
When they ask me if
I am writing today
Peace is the feeling
Down deep in my soul
I felt it when driving
10 hours in total
Staunton Virginia
Is now my new home
Yes I know
It’s a long way from Rome
God has been leading
Every step of the way
A home, church and car
Think he wants me to stay
What will I do
To fill all of my day
I’m not quite sure
Being cute doesn’t pay
🥰 😉
Much love,
Lindsey
